NEW MENTORSHIP PROGRAM UNFOLDING by Rose Marie Tierney
Presently in the works for our members, newsletters, and website is the opportunity to get some seasoned help in moving into private practice part-time, full-time, or contractual. This is an effort to foster clinicians who are in that process or thinking about it. A committee has been formed, chaired by myself and including our ICAPP-CSW president, Helen Krackow, to determine the process for implementing this program. At present, we are considering assigning different member-practitioners each month to cover inquiries. The other members will be available to the clinicians answering queries. Ultimately, some of the questions will appear in a column in the newsletter and possibly the website.
Typical queries may be: Should I align with managed care in my geographical area? If so, what's available and how do I reach them? Do I need someone to do my billing? What do they charge around here? So consider how this may be of use to you and we'll publish a follow up about the committee's decisions soon.
NOTICES Rose Marie Tierney will be stepping down as conference moderator due to her husband's health condition, although she will still continue to be the organizer of the mentorship program. We are grateful to Rose Marie for all her hard work and the excellent results at our conferences.
Florence Lieberman is replacing Rose Marie for the time being. She has requested that anyone interested in this job contact her, and she would be especially be interested in working with someone who would apprentice him/herself to Florence to help out this year, really learn the job, and take it over.
Our Florence is celebrated in the summer issue of The Clinical Social Work Journal, Vol 33, and No 2. Tom Keneore's speech delivered at the 2005 ICAPP-CSW conference is published. The speech and the article are entitled, "Don't worry, she’ll say it: A Tribute to Florence Lieberman.”
