ICAPP is the oldest Clinical Social Work organization in the country, having originally been created to promote private practice among Clinical Social Workers. Now open to all Clinical Social Workers, whether in agency or private practice, or academia, ICAPP is an international organization that sponsors annual Conferences all over the world on relevant and timely clinical topics.

June 2010’s conference will be held in Quebec at the world-class and historic Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac. Perched on Cap Diamant, Le Chateau offers a commanding view of the mighty St. Lawrence River. With its castle-like architecture and turrets Le Chateau offers luxury accommodations and is within easy walking distance of the quaint shops and historic sites of Old Quebec, the most charmingly European city in North America.

This year’s theme is “Show me the Money: Impact of the Money Crisis on the Clinical Process”. In these trying times how is the downturn in our economy affecting our clients’ and our own views about therapy? Is therapy now being considered less urgent, less important, not worth the expense? Have the goals we select with our clients changed? Do we maintain our regular fees in the face of client declining income? Have we lowered our fees, unsure whether money issues are masking resistance or an effort to manipulate the therapy? Is our ability to confront our clients affected? For many of us experiencing financial insecurity during these times, how is our morale affected, our clinical confidence about our ability to help? How have we coped with these issues?

ICAPP Conferences have a unique and intimate format, unlike any other conferences: papers are sent to attendees prior to the Conference, so that the Conference is devoted to discussion. Meetings are held in the mornings, so that the remainder of the day can be spent recreating or sight-seeing. Life-long professional contacts are made.

We welcome submission of papers related to the theme of the Conference. All papers should include practice examples, which would serve to illuminate this discussion. (It is not necessary to include practice examples in the abstract.)
